Chair’s Report

What a fantastic year it’s been. This was a year full of events, with the previous restrictions of Covid a thing of the past and some record fundraising events.

We kicked the year off with the hugely successful resurrection of the disco. A popular event welcomed back enthusiastically after a hiatus of several years. Children partied the night away (until 7pm) to Action Pussycat on the decks and enjoyed refreshments after. Huge thanks to Amy Lovell for organising the event and to everyone who helped pull it off. It raised an impressive £752.76.

The next big event was, of course, the Christmas festivities. Fundraisers included Christmas cards, a raffle and the Bazaar. This was an outdoor event (at the schools request) and included a Christmas treasure hunt with prizes given out by our very own Father Christmas, festive refreshments, craft tables, games and entertainment from the school choir and dance club. The event raised £520.21 plus a further £602.05 from the raffle. Though certainly an overall success, these events were not without their challenges. Christmas cards were sent home rather than designed in school which affected the number of people buying them, and volunteers at the bazaar were stretched thin and some activities impeded by the cold weather.

March saw the return of our hugely popular 90’s night. A club night held at the Tropicana with two rooms, two DJs, lasers, dancers and uv face painting, with 1000 tickets up for grabs we are thrilled to say that it was a sell out. Huge thanks go to Toby Blackburn as chief organiser of the event. It raised a whopping £7671.16.

In March we also celebrated easter, with a planned easter egg hunt, bonnet parade, raffle, refreshments and games. Unfortunately due to poor weather conditions this was cancelled.

However, we did proceed with the raffle, and held the Easter Bonnet parade inside, there was even a visit from the easter bunny. We decided that the chocolate prizes purchased for the egg hunt should be distributed among all the children in the school, plus any siblings who parents had purchased them for. Despite the cancellation, the event still raised £357.83 and parents were gracious with their donations and forthcoming with their sympathy and support at the cancellation.

The next big event in the calendar was the summer fete, held in partnership with the village society. Visitors enjoyed craft stalls, displays from local clubs, games, a bar, a bbq, and much, much more. The weather held and it turned out to be a record breaking profit, raising £5195.72. This is split with the village society making our take away £2597.86.

Other fundraisers throughout the year include uniform sales, textile recycling and the 100 club.

The PTFA has also supported the school with parent/teacher mornings, providing tea/coffee and chatting to parents.

In 2023/2024 we look forward to putting on more events for parents to encourage socialising and a sense of community, which was impacted throughout the pandemic.

Upcoming events include a quiz and Christmas wreath making workshop.

Finally, as well as a host of new faces joining us this year, we have also bid goodbye to Vicki Lloyd and Vikki Lindsay who, after 8 years, are stepping down from their roles of Chair and Treasurer. The PTFA would not be the organisation that it is today without their commitment for so many years; their legacy is etched into the school’s history forever, and we are so immensely grateful for everything they have contributed.

Upcoming Spends

The following spends have been tentatively raised by the school. A meeting has been arranged with Sam Hodder and Kate Sykes/Charlotte Rooney/Toby Blackburn on 4th October to discuss proposed projects.

  • Christmas Tree: £100

  • Wooden play structure for rear field: £15,000-£20,000

The school is also looking to providing outdoor reading spaces in some form in the future. Lizy Jones suggested enquiring with the school as to whether the children have/will be involved in the choice of solution. It was agreed to discuss this when the subject comes up with the school.

Upcoming Events

  • Fete 29th June.
  • Disco – questions on who to do it. Ade or Disco Queen? Need a DJ. Ellen to organise
  • Wreath making – Thurs 30th November provisional date. Charlotte organising. Lizy suggested adding drinks/food and making it a community event too. Caroline suggested also adding in a foraging event in advance to gather materials (and social)
  • Christmas cards – need to negotiate with Sam on whether it can be done in school either with the staff or through the parents coming in to support the activity in lunches/after school
  • Secret Santa – stuff needs to be ordering in advance. 50p-£1 to order items. Lizy suggested a buy for a friend scheme or donation. Toby to investigate added to website.
